PHYSICS AND LIGHT/ART VS SCIENCE

The following propositions and questions are at play in “Physics And Light”:

1) Functioning at once as art and science, mythologies often utilize poetic and creative modes of thought to explain the natural world.

2) Both art and science embody efforts to organize and understand nature and existence.

3) Art and (often) science embody efforts to celebrate the beauty and wonder of nature and existence.

4) Elegance is an ideal for mathematics, which remains the foundation of modern science.

5) Science-fiction is an explicit deployment of scientific and pseudo-scientific concepts in the creation of narrative art. 

6) Naming objects, qualities, and phenomena is a core process for both art and science.

7) Is the material world an approximation (dilution, corruption, shadow) of a higher realm?  Perhaps, but approximation is also a cornerstone of scientific and artistic efforts to attain their ideals.
